What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They help a site work, remember your choices and, with your permission, show its owner how it is used. This policy also covers similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage.
Under the ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336 of 2011, Regulation 5) and the GDPR, a website may only set cookies that are not strictly necessary once you have given clear consent. This website follows the Data Protection Commission's guidance on cookies.
Your choice
When analytics or advertising are switched on for this website, you are asked before anything optional is set. Nothing optional is set until you say yes, and "Reject all" is exactly as easy as "Accept all". Your choice is kept for six months, then you are asked again.
You can change your mind at any time: (also at the bottom of every page). If the button does nothing, this website is not using any optional cookies at the moment.
The site uses Google Consent Mode in its basic form: Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics do not load at all until you accept analytics or advertising cookies. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, it is treated as a refusal of advertising cookies, whatever else you choose.
Cookies used
Strictly necessary
These keep the website working and secure, and cannot be switched off.
| Name | Set by | How long | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| cc_cookie | roberthopkins.net | 6 months | Remembers your cookie choices. |
| Cloudflare Turnstile | challenges.cloudflare.com | The visit | Checks that the contact form is used by a person. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. |
Analytics, only with your consent
Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, shows which parts of the site people use so it can be improved. The data is aggregated, and kept for 14 months.
| Name | Set by | How long | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | 2 years | Tells visitors apart. | |
| ga<container ID> | 2 years | Keeps the state of a visit. |
Advertising, only with your consent
Advertising is switched off on this website at present. If it is switched on, Google AdSense may show adverts, and Google's own consent message, which is certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, will ask for your choices first. These cookies may then be set:
| Name | Set by | How long | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | 3 months | Measures how adverts perform. | |
| __gads, __gpi | 13 months | Show adverts and limit how often you see the same one. | |
| __eoi | 6 months | Helps prevent fraud and abuse. |
Google acts as an independent controller for advertising cookies. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, the contact form may not work.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated if a service is added or removed. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version.
